Priority Issues
Identifying social trends and issues in our community
In its ongoing efforts to identify and assess unmet needs within our community, the United Way/Centraide Sudbury and/et District commissions the Social Planning Council of Sudbury to monitor existing social services, facilitate the implementation of appropriate services to meet those needs, and ensure that existing social services and programs respond to these needs.
Since its inception, the Social Planning Council has monitored social indicators in order to advocate for appropriate action in response to social issues. Originally, a sub-committee of the United Way/Centraide, the Social Planning Council became an autonomous organization in 1990, but it has maintained a partnership with the UW/C. Since 2002, this partnership has focused on the collection of data pertaining to social trends and issues and the creation of action plans designed to address identified needs. The current report on social trends was developed to provide information to assist in decision-making processes regarding social planning and the provision of funding for social programs and services at the local level.
